Our approach is pro-active and preventative in order to build mental health and well-being skills and competencies for a flourishing life. When we say “mental health and well-being,” we are not talking about “fixing” an illness. We are talking about developing frames of mind that can be learned, enhanced, and used to strengthen all aspects of our lives. When you learn and develop your own mental health and well-being competencies, you have important skills to apply to life’s challenges to improve and strengthen your relationships, families, and work places.

People often find their needs can be met with the kinds of psycho-educational learning we provide through our courses and programs and they do not necessarily want or need long-term therapy. Our unique difference is that we provide personalized, one-on-one psycho-educational and educational programs, virtual or in-person, which have a pre-determined number of meetings, with a clear beginning and conclusion. The Center provides innovative counseling and psycho-educational programs that integrate mental health and well-being best practices into educational and co-educational curricula. The Center’s mission is to impact the psychological, social-emotional, and physical well-being of students, teachers, counselors and administrators in all educational environments. Learning is better when you put mental health and well-being first in all educational settings.


K-12 Educators

We provide courses, outreach programs, professional development, self-knowledge curricula, anti-bullying programs, and high-impact student advising assessments using strengths-based counseling methods.

About Henry and Elaine


Henry G. Brzycki, Ph.D.

A Co-president of The Brzycki Group and The Center for the Self in Schools, Dr. Brzycki has more than 40 years of experience providing leadership at intersection of education and psychology. Dr. Brzycki challenges education and psychology scholars and practitioners to expand their boundaries of understanding in order to impact the quality of people’s lives. Dr. Brzycki’s innovative counseling and psycho-educational programs pioneered positive psychology and strengths-based counseling methods. He  consults to schools, colleges, foundations, and policy makers on how to empower people to realize their full potential.

As former Dean of the School of Education at American Public University, he transformed teacher and counselor education programs to reflect a visionary model of education. In his distinguished academic and scholarly career, Dr. Brzycki served as a core faculty member in the teacher education program at Franklin Pierce University, taught at The Pennsylvania State University, and earned the Teacher of the Year Award at Clarion University (now called Pennsylvania Western University). His degrees include: B.S., Babson College; M.A., Tufts University; and Ph.D., The Pennsylvania State University.

Dr. Brzycki has provided leadership to the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the American Educational Research Association (AERA), where he presented his research on numerous occasions. As a researcher and author, Dr. Brzycki has published highly regarded research in peer-reviewed journals and an educational psychology textbook representing future directions in applying psychology to educational contexts. Dr. Brzycki served the U.S. Department of Education as a consultant on personalized learning methods, social emotional learning (SEL), and well-being outcomes.

Elaine J. Brzycki, Ed.M

Co-President of The Brzycki Group and The Center for the Self in Schools. Ms. Brzycki designed many of The Brzycki Group’s leading programs. Her career has spanned K-12 teaching, higher education administration, public media, public service media project design and leadership, university outreach programs, and adolescent coaching programs. Ms. Brzycki studied at Oxford University in England and holds a B.A. from Wellesley College and an Ed.M. from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. She is committed to empowering people’s innate wisdom, self-expression, and well-being.
